Guests of Arafah: A Departure in the Holiest of Times

Perhaps this is not the usual moment for such reflections, but on this sacred day, as we prayed over two funeral processions, a profound thought came to mind. On the Day of Arafah, when millions stand as the guests of Allah, seeking His mercy in the holiest place on Earth, some are chosen for an even greater invitation—a transition from this life to the next.

On this day, when Allah selects certain souls for a special kind of hospitality, He ends their struggles, joys, and sorrows, calling them to His presence just before the joyous gathering of Eid. A reminder, perhaps, for those who reflect.

What moved me even more was the rare and blessed combination: departing this world on both a Friday and the Day of Arafah—a farewell embraced by divine mercy. A solace for their loved ones, and a sign of grace in a moment we do not get to choose.

O Allah, Your guests have arrived at Your door, so honor their stay, forgive them, and grant them Your mercy. And when our time comes, bestow upon us Your grace, just as You have honored them. Ameen.
